Folio: AI Assistant for Finmap. Features and Installation
Learn how Folio helps automate your work in Finmap: from reports and statement reconciliation to automatic import from Google Drive.
Folio is a desktop app (Windows, macOS or Linux) with the AI assistant Claude built in. It has direct access to your Finmap. You write to it in plain language, as you would to a colleague, and it gets the job done: finds transactions, builds reports, reconciles statements, assigns categories.
What you need:
- A paid Claude subscription with access to Claude Code (for example, Pro or Max; Folio won't work on the free plan).
- A Finmap API key.
What Folio can do
Reports and charts right in the chat. Write "Show my September expenses by category as a chart" and describe what kind of chart you'd like to see – in a few seconds you'll get a customized chart. You can also ask for quarterly profit by project, a monthly summary compared to the previous month, or a forecast of whether you'll have enough money for the next 1–3 months.
Statement reconciliation. Add a bank statement to the chat in PDF, Excel or CSV format and write, for example, "Reconcile the transactions in this statement with the transactions on the PrivatBank UAH account for the period from 09/01/2026 to 09/30/2026". Folio will show which transactions are missing in Finmap, which are extra, and where amounts or dates don't match. It also detects transactions that were split into parts or posted on a different date.
Automatic statement import from Google Drive. This is useful if no automatic integration with Finmap is available for your bank. You point Folio to a Google Drive folder, and it checks it on its own at the interval you choose – from 15 minutes to a week. As soon as a new statement file appears there, Folio recognizes the transactions and creates them in the selected Finmap account. It filters out duplicates, so the same transaction never gets into the system twice.
Taking care of routine work. Folio can also:
- Find transactions without categories and assign categories and/or other entities based on comments.
- Split a transaction between projects.
- Find duplicate transactions in your accounts.
- Create transactions from a photo of a receipt: send a photo, and Folio will determine the amount, category and counterparty itself.
Scheduled tasks. Anything Folio does in the chat can be turned into a scheduled task. For example: "Categorize transactions every day at 9:00". You can also run a task manually at any time.
Working with other services. Folio connects to Google Sheets, Notion, Slack, Jira, GitHub and hundreds of other services. Connections work via the MCP standard. Usually it's enough to write "Connect Notion", and Folio will find the right module and ask for the required details.
Handy extras:
- You can add several companies to Folio, each with its own API key, without mixing data.
- Search across your entire chat history (Ctrl+K).
- Choice of Claude model for each company: Opus for complex tasks, Sonnet or Haiku for simpler and faster ones.
- Automatic updates (on Windows and Linux).

Data security Before making any change to your data in Finmap, Folio shows exactly what it's about to do and waits for your confirmation. Without your "yes", it doesn't create, edit or delete anything.
Installation
Step 1. Download Folio
Go to the releases page: https://github.com/vitalii98t/folio/releases/latest and choose the file for your system.
Windows
- Download the Folio Setup X.X.X.exe file and run it.
- Windows may show a "Windows protected your PC" warning. This is normal for new apps. Click More info, then Run anyway.
- Complete the installation and launch Folio from the Start menu.
macOS
-
Choose the file for your Mac:
- Apple Silicon (M1–M4): Folio-X.X.X-arm64.dmg;
- Intel: Folio-X.X.X.dmg.
If you're not sure which Mac you have, open the menu → "About This Mac". If the "Chip" line says Apple M…, you have Apple Silicon.
-
Open the .dmg and drag Folio into the "Applications" folder.
-
Before the first launch, open Terminal, paste this command and press Enter:
xattr -cr /Applications/Folio.appThis command is needed because the app isn't yet signed with an Apple certificate. Without it, macOS won't let you open it. You only need to run it once.
-
Launch Folio from "Applications".
Linux: download the .AppImage file, make it executable (chmod +x Folio-*.AppImage) and run it.
Step 2. Install Claude Code
On first launch, Folio will check whether Claude Code is installed – the "engine" the assistant runs on. If it isn't, click Встановити Claude Code (Install Claude Code), and everything will be installed automatically. After that, restart Folio.
You don't need to install anything else: everything required to connect third-party services is already built into Folio.
Step 3. Sign in to your Claude account
Click Увійти в Claude Code (Sign in to Claude Code). A sign-in window will open where you need to log in to the account with your Claude subscription.
Step 4. Add your Finmap company
- In Finmap, open Settings → API, create and copy an API key.
- In Folio, click "+" in the sidebar, enter the company name and paste the key.
The whole process is shown step by step in this video: https://www.loom.com/share/61af9171ce8e443fba298199c57a170b
How to set up import from Google Drive
- In Folio, open Налаштування (Settings) → Folder Import → "+".
- Enter your own Google API key. This way, your data goes directly between you and Google, with no intermediaries.
- Paste the folder link. The folder must have "Anyone with the link → Viewer" access enabled.
- Choose the Finmap account where transactions will be added.
- Set how often the folder should be checked.
After that, just upload statements to this folder and Folio will do the rest. If anything is unclear, simply write "Help me set up import from Google Drive" in the chat, and Folio will walk you through the steps.
Experiment
The list above is just a few examples, not a complete list of capabilities. Folio understands plain language and can combine Finmap with your other tools, so there are far more use cases than we've described.
The best way to discover them is to think about what work you regularly do by hand and simply ask Folio to take it on. If a task can be described in words, there's a good chance it can handle it. If not, it will tell you what's missing.
You'll be able to find custom use cases that fit you and your business.

If something doesn't work
- Folio doesn't detect Claude Code after installation. Fully close Folio and open it again.
- Problems with Claude sign-in. Please write to the support chat inside the app, and we'll help you get Folio working again.
